WBJS Examination 2025 – Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

Candidates must possess a Degree in Law from a university or institution recognized by the State or Central Government.

Professional Qualification

Applicants must be enrolled as an advocate in the roll of the Bar Council of any State or Union Territory in India on the date of the advertisement.

Age Limit (as on 07/12/2024)

  • Minimum Age: 23 years
  • Maximum Age: 35 years
  • This means candidates must be born not earlier than 08.12.1989 and not later than 07.12.2001.

Age Relaxation

Relaxation in the upper age limit is applicable for candidates from West Bengal:

Language Proficiency

  • Fee Exemption: SC/ST candidates of West Bengal and PwBD candidates (with 40% or more disability) are exempted from paying any fee.

WBJS 2025 – Selection Process

The examination consists of three successive stages:

  1. Preliminary Examination (MCQ Type): This is a screening test to shortlist candidates for the next stage. Marks from this exam will not be counted in the final merit list.
  2. Final Examination (Conventional Written Type): Candidates who qualify in the prelims will be called for the final written examination.
  3. Personality Test: Based on the results of the Final Examination, candidates will be called for a Personality Test.

The final merit list will be prepared based on the total marks obtained in the Final Examination and the Personality Test.

A significant change has been implemented for the 2024 examination. The old criminal laws have been replaced by the new ones. The syllabus has been modified to include:

  • The Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) in place of CrPC.
  • The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) in place of IPC.
  • The Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA) in place of the Evidence Act.

Preliminary Exam Pattern

  • The Preliminary Exam is an MCQ-type screening test.
  • There will be negative marking for each wrong answer.

Final Exam Pattern

  • The Final Exam is a conventional written test.
  • Answers for all papers (except language papers) can be written in either English or Bengali.
