Southern Railway Apprentice 2025 - Eligibility Criteria
Residential Eligibility
This is a critical requirement. Only candidates who are residents of the states/UTs falling under the geographical jurisdiction of Southern Railway are eligible to apply. This includes:
- Entire states of Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
- Entire UTs of Puducherry, Andaman & Nicobar, and Lakshadweep.
- Only SPSR Nellore and Chittoor districts of Andhra Pradesh.
- Only Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka.
Educational Qualification
- For Fresher Category: Passed 10th (for Fitter, Welder, Painter) or 12th with PCB (for MLT) with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks.
- For Ex-ITI Category: Passed 10th with a minimum of 50% marks + National Trade Certificate (NTC) in the notified trade issued by NCVT/SCVT.
Age Limit (as on the date of notification)
- Minimum Age: 15 years
- Maximum Age (Freshers): Must not have completed 22 years.
- Maximum Age (Ex-ITI & MLT): Must not have completed 24 years.
- Age Relaxation: Upper age limit is relaxable by 3 years for OBC, 5 years for SC/ST, and 10 years for PwBD candidates.
Application Fee
- Fee for General and OBC Candidates: ₹ 100/-
- Fee Exemption: SC, ST, PwBD, and Women candidates are exempted from paying the fee.

Merit-Based Selection (No Written Exam)
The selection process is purely based on merit. There will be no written test or interview.
- Calculation of Merit List (Fresher): The merit list will be prepared based on the marks obtained in the Matriculation (10th) or 12th standard examination.
- Calculation of Merit List (Ex-ITI): The merit list will be prepared by giving equal weightage to marks obtained in both Matriculation (10th) and the ITI examination.
- Document Verification: Shortlisted candidates will be called for Document Verification. The tentative list for DV is scheduled to be published on 07/10/2025.
