What Does an OICL Assistant Actually Do?
💡 The Backbone of Insurance Operations
An Assistant in a public sector insurance company like OICL is a versatile clerical role. Think of it as being similar to a bank clerk, but with a focus on insurance products. Your main duties will include:
- Underwriting Support: Helping senior officers assess risks and issue new insurance policies (like car, health, or home insurance).
- Claims Processing: Handling the paperwork and data entry for insurance claims submitted by customers.
- Customer Service: Being the first point of contact for customers, answering their questions, and explaining different insurance products.
- Accounts & Data Entry: Managing accounts, handling payments, and maintaining official records accurately.
State-wise Vacancies & Who Can Apply
You can apply for a vacancy in only one State or Union Territory. There are 500 vacancies in total, with the highest numbers in Delhi (66), Maharashtra (64), and Karnataka (47). For the full category-wise breakdown, please refer to the official notification.
Eligibility Criteria (as of July 31, 2025)
- Education: You must be a Graduate in any discipline. You also need to have passed English as a subject in your 10th, 12th, or Graduation.
- Age Limit: 21 to 30 years (with standard age relaxation for reserved categories).
- The Most Important Rule: You must be fluent in the Regional Language of the state you're applying for. This is a mandatory requirement and will be tested.
A Strategic Guide to the 3-Phase Selection Process
Your journey to becoming an OICL Assistant has three main stages. Here’s what you need to master:
Phase 1: The Preliminary Exam (The Speed Test)
This is a 60-minute online test designed to check your speed and accuracy. You have to clear the cut-off in each of the three sections (English, Reasoning, Numerical Ability) to qualify for the next stage. The marks from this exam won't be counted in your final score.
Phase 2: The Main Exam (The Real Decider)
This is the most important part. Your final job offer will depend entirely on the marks you score in this exam. It's a comprehensive 2-hour test that covers five different subjects.
Phase 3: The Regional Language Test (The Final Hurdle)
💡 Don't Underestimate This Final Step!
This is a pass/fail test, but it is absolutely mandatory. Many candidates who do well in the Main exam get disqualified here. They will test your ability to read, write, and speak the official language of the state you applied for. If you're applying from a state where the local language isn't your mother tongue, start practicing it right away.
Heads Up: There is a 1/4th negative marking for wrong answers in both the Prelims and Mains exams.
